Freddie Gray died on December 17, 2007, in Fort Pierce, at the age of 90, at home with his daughter and son-in-law, and with the kind help of Hospice.He was born Frederick Howard Goldhahn in “The Meadows” of Philadelphia, on August 5, 1917. His stage name was Freddie Gray, from his entertainment days when he had a band and vocal group called Freddie Gray and the Graytones. He traveled the country with his music, played on television and radio, played many night clubs around Philadelphia, and played the outside here in Florida until his retirement in 1997, at the age of 80. He was a self-taught musician who played the drums, piano and organ and sang in a wonderful baritone voice. He was also an arranger of great skill.For the last 30 years he has been a devoted ham radio operator who ran three nets daily. His vocal experience and his stage presence caused him to be called “The Maestro” by his many ham radio friends.He is survived by his daughter, Kitty, and her husband Dick, and by two grandchildren, Samantha Massie and Douglas Rucker. He also had three great-grandchildren Jacob, Nicholas, and Logan, who were a great source of pride to him. His sister, Mary Fisher, lives in Spanish Lakes Country Club Village. The love of his life, his wife, Kitty Kee Gray, preceded him in death in 1992.No services are planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Treasure Coast Hospice, 2500 Virginia Avenue, Suite 202, Fort Pierce, Florida 34981.
