Frederick C. Weech Jr

March 5, 1934 — September 3, 2018

Funeral Service for Frederick Castleton Weech, Jr., age 84 years, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, formerly of Alice Town, Bimini, Bahamas, will be held on Friday, September 7th, at 11:00 a.m. at Haisley Tribute Center in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Among those left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Mavis Weech. Married in 1958, he departed this life just weeks short of their 60th anniversary. She was constantly at his side over the past several years as his health deteriorated and, after a lifetime together, will miss him immensely.

Mr. Weech is also survived by his son: Rick Weech; daughter: Shelly Coleman; son-in-law: Richard Coleman; daughter-in-law: Bibi Weech; grandchildren: Christopher Weech, Stephanie Caldwell, Ben and Katie Coleman; sisters: Elaine Sweeting, Agatha Howard, Eleanor Spindler, Jessie Underwood and Barbara Checkley; brother: Hank Weech; brothers-in-law: David Higgs, Allison Underwood, Alfred Sweeting and Michael Checkley; sister-in law: Elsie Weech; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and a lifetime of dear friends.
Frederick is predeceased by his parents: Frederick Castleton Weech, Sr., and Sarah Weech; his Siblings: Realand Sewell, Una Russell, Douglas Weech, Jean Higgs and Sherry Weech.

Born on the island of Bimini, he worked at some of the island’s first hotels and on various cargo boats servicing the island during his youth. In 1958, he married Mavis and they soon had two children while he worked for the Bimini Big Game Club. In 1968, he brought his family to the United States after accepting a job as engineer on the 114-foot private yacht, Parranda. He subsequently opened his own home repair business at the family home in Hollywood, Florida, which he operated successfully for many years. In 1984, he returned to Bimini at the behest of the Bimini Big Game Club, then the island’s largest hotel, to serve as Director of Essential Services for over 15 years until his retirement in 1999. He and Mavis then split their time between their beloved island of Bimini and a lovely country home, complete with a lake, in the serene community of Malabar, Florida. They enjoyed their retirement years, especially the opportunity to spend lots of time with their grandchildren.

They came to Port St. Lucie in 2014 to be near their son as his health deteriorated.

The family would like to thank the staff of Treasure Coast Hospice and especially Patti Strauch, for all the love, advice and unending care that they gave during his illness. The family also appreciates the love and support he received these last months from his caregiver, Chantel Hill.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Treasure Coast Hospice Foundation.
