George Chisholm Rush Jr. South Hutchinson, Island Florida and Hyannisport, Massachusetts, unexpectedly passed away in his home on Friday, January 12, 2018 at the age of 79. Predeceased by his parents, Dr. George C. Rush and Ruth Rush. He is survived by Maria, his loving wife of 51 years; daughter Kristin (Jamie) Palmer; sons Craig and Jonathan Rush; grandchildren Megan and Alex Palmer; and sister Susan Guadagnoli of McLean, Virginia.
Born in Boston Massachusetts in 1938, attended Medford High School where he played basketball and was the captain of his team. He went on to play basketball while he attended Dartmouth College where he graduated in 1960 with a B.A. in Psychology/Sociology. After graduating from Dartmouth, he attended Columbia University and graduated in 1961 after he earned his MBA in finance/marketing.
Shortly after graduating from Columbia, he joined the army and became a Special Agent at the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps. After leaving the army, he was employed by Xerox for over 30 years. When he retired in 1995, He and his wife, Maria spent the first years of retirement traveling.
He enjoyed sharing his home and spending time with friends and family while on Cape Cod and Hutchinson Island. He was an avid reader and loved playing cards. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed playing tennis, running and keeping up with his favorite sports teams, the Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Haisley Funeral Home, Fort Pierce. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or to the Dartmouth College Fund, in memory of George C. Rush,
Class of 1960.
