GEORGE S. AFENTUL

George S. Afentul, 85, born February 22, 1926 in Canton, OH, died November 5, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Riviera Beach, FL.

The eldest son of Greek immigrants Stavros & Agape, he enlisted in two wars: WWII, Army Air Corps mechanic on the Enola Gay and Vietnam as a Navy Seabee Forman. He enjoyed high performance cars, fishing, boating and was a devout family man and all around outdoorsman. Before retiring in Vero Beach, FL he lived and worked in Ft. Pierce, FL and as an oil-rig mechanic in Oklahoma City, OK.

He is survived by Henrietta, his high school sweetheart and wife of 67 years; daughters, Henrietta (James) Walters and Elizabeth (Michael) Camp; sons, George (Jeanette) and Stephen (Loretta) Afentul; sisters, Helen Dimos and Bertha Maragakes; brother Gust and 16 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by son Fred.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, November 11th at 11:00 in the Haisley Funeral Home Chapel. Inurnment will be at South Florida National Cemetery on November 14th. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Parkinson’s Foundation or Veteran’s Administration. Arrangements are by Haisley Funeral & Cremation Service.
