George Edgar Tippins, 84, of Fort Pierce, passed away on November 9, 2021.
George was born in Arcadia, Florida on October 18, 1937. His childhood years were spent enjoying the sunshine with his ten siblings on the west coast of the state, and in later years he moved east. George was a beloved community member all along the Treasure Coast. From his many partners across the construction industry, to the church congregations and local prison ministry where he served as a spiritual leader, George couldn’t walk into a store or restaurant in town without running into an old friend.
To be fair, George also never met a stranger. He met every person in his path with a welcoming smile, twinkling blue eyes, and a warm greeting —which seemed to melt even the toughest exteriors. His laughter was infectious. He was kind and gentle, a shining example of his faith. He was an avid sports fan, becoming a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and Green Bay Packers long before his native Florida had professional teams. He loved animals, but perhaps none more than his beloved Great Dane, Buster. More than anything, he loved God and he loved his family. He was utterly devoted to Mary, his wife of 45 years, and all his children. He will always be remembered to his many friends and family members as the hardest working, kindest, most loving, and generous person any have known.
George is preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings, and three grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Mary Tippins, daughters Sheila (Tim) Concannon and Tami Tippins, son Shane Short, daughters Stacy (Paul Lawson) Short, Sonjah (Ralph) Greco, Jessica Register, and Ashley (Benn Harrison) Tippins, 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and siblings Joan Smith and Ray Tippins.
Arrangements are by Haisley Funeral and Cremation Service. A small graveside memorial will take place on Saturday, November 13 at White City Cemetery at 1 o’clock in the afternoon. The family of George wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Treasure Coast Hospice, Dr. Boykin, and Dr. Jasti.
