On Sunday, February 5, 2023 Gerald Adam Stach, age 84 passed away at home surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Often referred to as “Jerry”, he was born on December 23, 1938 to Joseph and Sophie (Kuczaj) Stach in Chicago, Illinois. Jerry graduated high school with the class of 1957 from Springfield Catholic Central and later attended Ohio State University. Prior to his college career advancement, Jerry enlisted in the United States Army as a military police officer. After serving his country, he wed his high school sweetheart Joyce Cast at Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church in Springfield, Ohio, on February 10, 1962. Following his honorable discharge from the United States Army, Jerry began his career in security at International Harvester.
Jerry was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting with family and friends when residing in Ohio and after retiring to Port Saint Lucie, FL in 1989 he became an experienced fisherman. Some of the fondest memories included Jerry teaching his grandchildren how to hook bait on a fishing line or taking a spin on the lawn mower as the grandchildren “helped” cut the grass. Jerry also enjoyed playing poker with the boys and “winning” when playing cards with his wife. He was an active member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Ministries and a parishioner at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Jerry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Joyce of Port Saint Lucie, FL; four beautiful daughters, Cheryl Spragg, Janine and (husband) Michael Swords, all of Port Saint Lucie, FL, Michelle Mauricio of Plantation, Fl and Suzanne Lawrence, also of Port Saint Lucie, Fl. His sister, Joanne Snyder of Springfield, Ohio and brother, Robert and (wife) Carol Stach of Georgia; sisters-in-law Carol Cast of Springfield, OH and Mary Lou and (husband) Joseph Kuzniar of Enon, OH.
His grandchildren will incredibly miss his laughter and sense of humor, along with his great big bear hugs. His wonderfully loved grandchildren include Lauren and (husband) William Hensley, Jillian and (husband) Daniel Gutierrez, Jessica Swords, Michael Swords, Joseph Mauricio, Jordan Mauricio and Mariela Perez, Jaclyn and (husband) Nicholas Thompson, Dylan Karvin and (fiancé) Tegan Bissell, Madison Lawrence, and Noah Lawrence. Jerry’s great-grandchildren include Collin, Aliyah, William, Daniel, Gabriel, Adam, Elijah, Emma, Elizabeth, Alexander, and Brayden.
His loving nieces and nephews, Skipper Sanders and Cathy Whitcher both of North Carolina, Lisa Hatcher and Dewey Snyder both of Ohio, Rori Morley of Alpharetta, GA, Joan Cast and John Cast both of Springfield, OH, Jenny and John Krichbaum of Springfield, OH and cousins, Johnny Stach of Chicago, IL and Cindy and Frank Pearman also of Chicago, IL. Along with many other extended family members that will remember him lovingly. His dear friends Joe Reynolds, Bill and Margie Spahr, and Stanley Dillahunt.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Joseph and Sophie Stach; sister, Elaine Golden; grandson, Connor Spragg; nieces, Caren Whitcher, Julie Snyder, and Pamela Imes; as well as several aunts, uncles, and other beloved family members.
In honor and loving memory of Jerry, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent De Paul located at 930 SW Tunis Avenue, Port Saint Lucie, Fl 34953, the local Veteran’s Association, Treasure Coast Hospice, or the charity of the individual’s preference.
As a member of the Roman Catholic Church, a Celebration of Life Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in honor and memory of Gerald Stach on Friday, February 24, 2023 at 11:00am.
