Gilchrist Gordon “Mick“ McGuire passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 14 , 2020 at his home in Port St. Lucie , Florida.
Mick was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 15, 1936. He was the only son of Joseph and Eliza McGuire. After graduating high school, Mick enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country during the Korean war.
After his service in the Air Force, he then went on to have an incredible career in the Dearborn Heights Police Department . He served on the Police Department from February 1963 through February 1987. During his career he received many accommodations and citations which included pulling a man from a burning building and saving a small child that was choking. He obtained a Bachelor's of Science in Criminal Justice degree from Wayne State University. Retiring as a Lieutenant after 25 years of dedicated service.
Mick went on to live out his retirement years with the love of his life, Gayle in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He enjoyed taking family vacations to Disney World (which he also loved), Northern Michigan, Niagara Falls and many other spots.
Mick was an avid NASCAR enthusiast and enjoyed attending and watching races.
He loved people and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was a friend to animals participating in many fundraising events during his lifetime including adopting rescue dogs, his beloved Gidget was at his side at the time of his passing.
Mick is survived by his wife of 54 loving years Gayle Ann McGuire and their five children Andrea Jean Jacobs, Micheal Casper, John Casper, Marilyn Idle and Joseph Mickey McGuire. He was also blessed with ten grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
At a later date, there will be a celebration of life for family and friends.
