Glenda Hockaday Varnes, 73, passed from this life on January 26, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Selmer, Tn. and moved to Fort Pierce, Fl, in 1954. She graduated from Dan McCarty high school then married Joseph Edward “Ed” Varnes and had two children. She went on to work at her fathers company, Hockaday Trucking, as a Office Manager for most of her life and at Re/max in her later years.
During her 73 years, Glenda was very devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as they were her greatest joy. She was also loved and comforted by her feline friends, Madison, Bailey and Zoe.
Anyone who’s path connected with Glenda’s was touched by her unique talent in painting, arts and crafts in which she used to make her house a home. Her generosity to friends and family was undeniable and she loved spending holidays and birthdays with the whole family. Glenda and Ed resided in Gator Trace Golf and Country Club, in their later years, where they enjoyed playing golf with friends and neighbors.
She is remembered with great love by her mother, Jewell Hockaday; sister, Janet Brautigan; daughter, Candace White; son, Bryan Varnes; 5 grandchildren, Johnny, Brady, Bryan II, Dylan and Taylor; 8 great-grandchildren, Ali, J.D., Jezalee, Braylin, Jaxton, Aubrey, Christopher and Bradyn. She is preceded in death by her father, Arnold K. Hockaday, her loving husband, Joseph Edward “Ed” Varnes and grandson Cody West.
Services: Visitation will be held at Haisley Funeral Home on February 12, 2017 from 3- 4 with a service to follow at 4:00 pm. A gathering of friends and family in celebration of Glenda’s life will be held in the Haisley’s reception hall located behind the chapel.
