Glenn Arthur “Spud” Grimes, 67, passed away on August 13, 2022 in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Mr. Grimes was born in Memphis, Tennessee on February 20, 1955 and resided in Fort Pierce, Florida.
He was a retired commercial fisherman and worked his whole life in the air conditioning industry. He attended Fort Pierce Central High School.
Spud loved the water. He spent his life mostly in it, on it, or beneath it. If you couldn’t find him, you knew he was either fishing the waters he knew better than anyone else around or surfing the North Jetty. And lobster season always found him in the best secret spots. He had a soft spot for cats and took care of a lot of homeless kitties over the years. He was of the very rare breed that lives their life exactly the way they want to. He said many times that he was perfectly happy with the way he got to spend his time here. He leaves behind many friends who love him and will miss his stories. He was a local legend in his time and will remain so for a long time to come. And with his family there will always be a spot at the pow wow that only he can fill. He had a kind, simple heart and spirit.
Survivors include his brother, Hugh A. Grimes; sister, Helen Diedrich; brother, Floyd Stokes. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter A. Grimes, mother, Florence Bowen Grimes Parrish, stepmother, Frances Grimes, sister, Linda Elaine Grimes, brother, Walter Lee Grimes, and sister, Teresa Grimes Patton.
