Gloria Louise Green Lamprey
November 11, 1933 – December 1, 2013

Gloria was the 2nd adopted daughter of James Green and Gladys Young Green. She was raised in Monroe, Wisconsin where she attended school and played saxophone in the High School Band and Orchestra. She spent a summer studying at the National Music Camp at Interlochen, Michigan where she developed her life-long love of classical music. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1952.

Gloria, “Glo” to family and friends, also had a life-long love of animals. She enjoyed riding and barrel racing the family’s saddle horse named Gypsy Queen. She has owned several dogs including her childhood Cocker Spaniel named Mr. Chips, her English Water Spaniel named Skeeter and her beloved Heinz 57 named Willie. Don’t tell anyone about the pot bellied pig!

Gloria studied at St. Catherine’s College in St. Paul, Minnesota and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. While in college, she joined the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and spent 13 years as Sister James Mary, nursing in both Minnesota and North Dakota.

After her years in the convent, Gloria moved to Boca Raton, Florida and continued her nursing career at Boca Raton Hospital. She would spend weekends with her friends in Sebastian, Florida where she met her husband Don Lamprey. They were married on December 30, 1972. They built their home in Sebastian together, with Don laying the blocks and Gloria mixing the mortar. Don and Glo had a lawn service business at one time after which Gloria went back into nursing, specializing in Home Health Care. After she retired, Gloria volunteered for a short while at Sebastian River Medical Center.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband Donald Lamprey and her nephew James Cook. She is survived by her sister Patricia Matteson of Franklin, NC, her nieces Kathleen Cicio of Port St. Lucie, FL, Deborah Desorcy of Royal Palm Beach, FL, Sherry Lewis of Cherokee, NC, Mary Peterson of Lake Worth, FL and her nephew Michael Cook of Port St. Lucie, FL.

Gloria, “Auntie” to all her nieces and nephew, passed away in the care of Hospice of the Treasure Coast. There will be no service by her request. Donations may be made in Gloria’s name to Treasure Coast Hospice or Dogs & Cats Forever, both in Fort Pierce, Florida.
