Gordon W. Moore, 93, died in Jesus Wednesday, April 14, at the Lynmoore Assisted Living in Ft. Pierce.
He was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Fern J. Moore, his brother Harold, his sister Margaret Pinault, Laura White, and Jean Moore.
He is survived by his son, Donald G. Moore and wife Gabriele of Feeding Hills, MA and his daughter, Marilyn M. Field of Port St. Lucie, FL. He leaves 6 grandchildren: Christine Moore, Carolyn Gifford and husband Randall, Cathleen Currie and husband Jeffery, and Gordon G. Moore and wife Karissa, Barbara Field, Daniel Field, and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was born in Smoky Falls, Ontario, Canada and emigrated to South Lancaster, MA in the early 1920’s. He attended schools in South Lancaster, MA; Springfield, MA; and Sandy Creek High School in NY. He service twice in the Civil Conservation Corp. building roads and planting trees in Robinson State Park in Feeding Hills, MA and a state park in New York. He was drafted into the Army near the end of WWII and guarded POW’s in Wisconsin and California.
After discharge, he returned to Feeding Hills, MA and became a self-employed builder. He built many homes in the greater Springfield area. In 1967 he retired and wintered in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. and Port St. Lucie. He built several homes in Florida before building his final residence in Indian River Estates, Ft. Pierce, in 1989. He enjoyed boating, traveling working, animals and family.
A committal service will be at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery (MA) April 30 at 10:00 AM to be followed by a memorial service at 11:30AM at the First Springfield Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1118 Sumner Ave. Springfield MA
