In Loving Memory of Harriet Bass Solomon Schon
Harriet Bass Solomon Schon, 81 (1942-2024) Harriet Bass Solomon Schon of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, formerly of White Plains, New York, passed away on March 27, 2024 after a long illness.
Harriet, born in Bronx, New York, spent her childhood and adult years in White Plains, New York. As the eldest child of three, Harriet quickly assumed a caring role that would become her hallmark throughout life. As a child, Harriet enjoyed summers with her friend Adrienne at camp creating life-long memories. A graduate of White Plains High School, she studied at the University of Miami and New York University where she received her degree in Finance. Harriet was fond of the culinary arts. Both self taught from her encyclopedic Le Cordon Bleu, Grand Diplome Cooking Course and as a baker at Scarsdale Pastry Center, she was persuaded as often as possible to recreate one of her signature meals such as chicken with cherries and cream puff swans. As a present, loved ones were encouraged to choose a favorite meal that she would prepare on their birthday. Along with friends, Harriet attended The Symphony of Westchester as well as delight in an evening of ballroom dancing.
Harriet excelled in service to others. She was a volunteer at the Child Care Council of Westchester and White Plains Hospital for decades. As a cancer survivor earlier in life, Harriet was very sympathetic to those receiving treatment for their illnesses. However, Harriet lived her life in balance. Many Saturdays were spent with her daughters shopping at Loehmann’s followed by a trip to Epstein’s Delicatessen in Hartsdale.
Harriet is predeceased by her parents, Henry and Minnie Bass of White Plains, New York, ex-husband, Michael Solomon and husband, Andrew Schon. She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Bissell and Stephanie Saitta, a son-in-law, Chris Saitta and two grandchildren, Helyna Bissell and Gerald Bissell
Services for Harriet will be held graveside at Sharon Gardens, 273 Lakeview Avenue, Valhalla, New York on Sunday, April 7 at 10 am.
