Hector De Paula Arais
Hector De Paula Arias, 74, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, August 22, 2012. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba on February 13, 1938. Hector came to the United States in the late 50s to attend Auburn University. Once he was there he and his wife raised two children, and now enjoy two grandchildren.
He served 22 ½ years as City Engineer for the City of Fort Pierce. Hector's efforts with the city have been numerous over his tenure as City Engineer. He lead one of the most talented, efficient and well respected municipal Engineering Departments in the State of Florida. He managed $50 million of completed projects, $30 million in projects under design at the time and $34 million in grants obtained from the Florida Department of Transportation, St. Lucie County, South Florida Water Management District and the Florida Inland Navigation District. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, and served as President of the Cuban American Club.
He is survived by his loving wife Maelia, loving children Michael and Martha, and his adored grandchildren Jose and Taka; his sisters-in-law Mercedes Gills and Consuelo Jimenez; his brothers-in-law Rudy Gills and David Jimenez; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012 from 5-8 PM with a Wake Service at 7:00 PM at Haisley Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at St. Anastasia Catholic Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Haisley Funeral & Cremation Service.
