Helen Frere Ford, 86, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, January 10, 2006. Helen was born in Vero Beach and was the first baby baptized at St. Helen’s Church. She moved to Fort Pierce when she was six months old and with the exception of a few months, she lived her entire life in Fort Pierce.Helen graduated from St. Anastasia School in 1937. After graduation, she worked in her father’s gift shop that located on 5th Street and was a doctor’s assistant for Dr. Counsel in the Fort Pierce Arcade Building.She married Frank Ford in 1946 and together they raised five daughters and ran Ford Fence Company until 1978.Helen was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church and was very active in the prayer ministry and served as an extraordinary minister.Helen is survived by her five daughters and their husbands; Elaine and Joe Matthews, Carmen and Dale Gilmore, Teresa and Ken Smith and Dorothy and Michael O’Guin, all of Fort Pierce and Eileen Ford and Bruce Gilbert of Orlando. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Ford; brother Jules Frere and sisters Rosalie Alford and Adele Cairns.Memorial contributions may be made to the Treasure Coast Hospices, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34996.
