Helen Salmon Gilchrist (Aka Rookie), daughter of Lula Mae Purnell and the late William Salmon, was born May 19, 1947 in Dillion, South Carolina. She departed this earthly life on Thursday, April
7, 2016, at Treasure Coast Hospice in Fort Pierce, FL.
Helen retired as the Bookmobile Manager from the Dillon County Library.
She was kind hearted, generous, honest, respectful, intelligent, non-judgmental, with a loving spirit and an infectious smile. Helen was a good listener who would tell you if you were right or wrong no matter what. She was a hard worker, had a strong will, and became a special person to many who loved and cherished her dearly.
Helen's many enjoyments include, cooking, caring for her loved ones, sewing, traveling, reading and especially going to the casino.
She leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Lula Mae Purnell; her siblings: Mary Virginia Floyd "Sister", Dora Mae Nance "Tennie", John Joseph Salmon "Joe", Rosetta Swells "Girlfriend", Annie Catherine Sellers "Cat", and Neil Wade Salmon; her children: Levon Gilchrist (Wife Shanda), James Frederick Gilchrist, Barbara Yolanda Erege (Husband Hyginus), and Benson Gilchrist; her grandchildren: Jasmine Salmon-Bellamy, Patrick Salmon, Raashaad Jamal Jones, Jaerod Curtis-Lee Jones, Tiffany C. Darrison, Brittany T. Darrison, Chimaobi Erege, and Chiemela M. Erege; her great-grandchildren: Tre'Jian Patterson, Germari Bellamy, and Jasmine Salmon.
She was survived by ex-husbad Leroy Gilchrist, stepson Jermaine Robinson, and a special daughter-in-law Kathy Hiro.
Helen went to join her deceased brother William Salmon "Boot", sister Geraldine Salmon, and her beloved son John Hamer Salmon "Johnny".
A host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and many others whose names may not have been written, but surely have not been forgotten or appreciated.
