Helen Percy
Helen Jean Ferguson Percy passed away on May 3, 2014. She was eighty-nine years old. Helen was born in Detroit, Michigan to Matilda and James Ferguson. She was married to Harland Percy June 22, 1946. She and Harland along with their three children Jim, Joan and Jeff moved to Fort Pierce, Florida in 1957. The family lived on south beach and attended St. Andrews Episcopal Church during the children’s formative years. Helen worked in the abstract and title security field while in Fort Pierce.
Upon retirement, she and her husband Harland moved to New Hampshire and later to Brevard, North Carolina where they were active in various roles at Connestee Falls such as the Connestee Fishing Club and Volunteer Fire Fighters Association. After her husband’s death in 1997, Helen continued to participate in the Connestee Sewing Club and Red Hat Society as well as volunteering at the local hospital and Safe House. She was also a member of the Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church. Both Helen and Harland were avid travelers, visiting Helen’s cousins in Glasgow, Scotland and spending winters on the Costa del Sol in Spain.
Helen moved back to Fort Pierce in October 2013 and shortly thereafter became ill. She died in the Port St. Lucie Rehabilitative Center surrounded by her daughter Joan Talley, son Jeff, daughter-in-law Judy Percy, and grandson Joel Percy. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, brother George, beloved husband Harland and son Jim. She is survived by her brother Alexander, daughter Joan, and son Jeff (Judy) along with six grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
