Henry Pottle Meurer
Henry Pottle Meurer, age 78, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away with his family by his side on June 25, 2014. Henry was born and grew up in Buffalo, NY and was the son of Gertrude Pottle Meurer and Louis George Meurer Jr. He was a decendent of the Mayflower through both John Brewster and Thomas Holland who were both passengers and key figures in the voyage.
Henry served honorably in the U.S. Navy at Johnsville Naval Air Base in Philadelphia, PA.
He was married to Christine Jacobs for 53 years and raised his three sons, Christopher, Edward, and Stuart in Pasadena, CA, East Aurora, NY, Girard, PA, and Pittsburgh, PA. He is survived by all three sons as well as daughter-in-laws; Karen Bowen-Meurer, Susan Bragg Meurer and his 8 grandchildren, Christopher, Jessica, Brianna, Matthew, Sam, Maxine, Charles, Harry. He was lovingly called G-Daddy and enjoyed his time with his dogs Lucy and Molly ("the girls").
As a young adult, he served in the East Aurora Volunteer Fire Company and was always ready to help when called upon. In his later years, he was a therapy dog handler and enjoyed going into nursing homes and hospitals to lift the spirits of those in need. Henry was in industrial sales all of his life and travelled extensively as a result. He had the tremendous gift of managing to find friends wherever he was.
