Herbert S. Collier
Herbert S. Collier, 79, died May 27, 2021 in Colquitt, Georgia.
Herb grew up in Sarasota and Okeechobee, Florida. He served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a 4th generation Florida cowboy, growing up on the Palmer Ranch in Sarasota, traveling with the show animals, later years he had his own business taking care of people’s livestock and training cutting horses. He retired after 25 years as an Agriculture Investigator for Lykes Bros Inc, and the Glades County Sheriff’s Office. He was an active member of the Florida Agriculture Crimes Intelligence Unit, having served as President several years, and Southern States Livestock and Rural Law Enforcement Association.
He raised Florida Cracker horses, catahoula leopard dogs and enjoyed going for airboat rides, especially in the Everglades where he was a member on the Miccosukee Tribal Lands. He was an avid hunter, completing several Grand Slam turkey hunts. He loved calling in the turkeys for other people. He was noted for his cooking and telling stories of yesteryear.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Dill-Collier; brother, Bryant Lonzo Collier; daughters, Melody Sarda and Mitzi Collier; grandchildren, Valerie and Spencer Stewart; great-grandchildren, John and Noah Stewart. He was preceded in death by his father, Leoland E. Collier, mother, Nadine Elizabeth Herren Collier, sister, Leoland “Lea” Delia Collier, and brothers, Willis E. and Sidney Collier.
Services: A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 1:00 PM at the Altono Chandler Civic Center (aka Basinger Community Center), 20350 Highway 98 North, Okeechobee, FL 34972.
