Herbert Ross Ellmers, 92, died August 3, 2020 in Port Saint Lucie, Florida.
He was born September 29, 1927 in Meridan, Connecticut, the son of Albert and Etta Ellmers. After graduating from high school, he continued his education in radio repair and ham radios. During World War II he served his country in the US Army. He married Barbara Payne and they had two sons, Kurt and Paulie. He was employed by the State of Connecticut and retired as Supervisor of Radio and Communications. They moved to Port Saint Lucie, Florida in 1986 where he continued his interest in ham radio, speaking with people from around the world. He was also a big fan of auto racing and had interest in auto restoration. At one time, he served as President of the Lincoln Car Club. After losing his wife Barbara, after 54 years of marriage, he married their dear friend Donna Alpine, and they were blessed with twelve years together.
Survivors include his wife Donna Alpine Ellmers, son Kurt (Barbara) Ellmers, step-daughter Joann Bolte, granddaughter Courtney (Matt) Jonas, step-grandson Mike (Michelle) Daberko. Preceding him in death were his parents, his first wife Barbara, son Paulie, and granddaughter Kassiday.
Services will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Fort Pierce, FL on Wednesday, August 12, 2020. Viewing will be at 2:00 pm with the funeral to follow at 3:00 pm. Burial will take place at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at 2:00 pm.
