Herbert J. Rochester, 81, died November 11, 2010 in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Mr. Rochester was born in Hall County, Georgia and moved to Ft Pierce in the early 1970’s.
He was a successful self-made business man. His business endeavors included opening one of the first mattress companies in Gainesville, GA, owning a furniture store in Ft Pierce, and investing in real estate. Mr. Rochester was passionate about helping the less fortunate and assisted many in becoming homeowners.
Mr. Rochester was a progressive thinker and developed ideas about electric cars, ethanol fuel, and desert irrigation systems. He was also a stock car racer in his younger days and an avid NASCAR fan. He loved raising farm animals and enjoyed gardening, fishin, and spending time with his family and friends.
He survived by his children Patricia Hand of Sorrento, FL, Pamela Rochester of Ft Pierce, FL, Christine Ong of Orlando, FL, Eric Ong of Gainesville, FL, and Edd-Mcgaric Ong of Ft Pierce, FL; grandchildren Taylor Hand, Dustin Hand, Neysa Oliver, and Elyse Gakis; great grandchildren Cole and Mariah Oliver. He was preceded in death by his daughters Joy and Lynn Rochester.
Services: A visitation will be held Monday November 15, 2010 from 11AM-1PM with a service to follow at 1:00 PM at Haisley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Ft Pierce.
