Howard Hewlett Ackley
Howard H. Ackley, age 86 of Ft. Pierce, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Treasure Coast Hospice House.
Howard was born in Hempstead, NY on June 2, 1930 and relocated to Florida in 1997 upon his retirement. After high school, he served as a French hornist with the US Air Force Band, performing for President Harry S Truman. Howard later had a career as theater manager at several movie houses on Long Island. He volunteered with Palm Beach Hospice following the loss of his beloved wife, Dorothy, after 50 years of marriage.
He was passionate with his hobbies, which over his lifetime included astronomy, gardening (growing beautiful orchids and delicious strawberries), ham radio, surfing, meteorology, long distance running, biking, swimming and most especially fishing.
His survivors include his daughter, Donna Rice, of Ft. Pierce; two grandchildren, Tabitha Donghia-Killion of Vero Beach and Keith Donghia and wife Alicia of Port St. Lucie. He is also survived by great grandchildren Ethan, Hailey, Sydnee, and Wyatt, five nieces and nephews and many extended family members. Howard also leaves behind two cats, Liriope and Me Too, plus countless friends from Epiphany Lutheran Church in Lake Worth and Trinity Lutheran Church in Ft. Pierce. He was loved and respected also by the many friends he made in the communities of Boynton Lakes in Boynton Beach and Lake Forest Park and High Point, both in Ft. Pierce.
There will be a Celebration of Life held on Wednesday, October 26th at 3 PM in the clubhouse at Lake Forest Park, 2909 S. 25th St., Ft. Pierce, FL.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 5000 Dunn Rd., Ft. Pierce, FL 34981 in memory of Howard.
