In Loving Memory of Hugh Mark Lennon
February 20, 1936-December 21, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Hugh Lennon, a devoted husband, cherished father, beloved grandfather and great grandfather. Hugh was the loving husband and best friend of Margaret (Peggy) Lennon, née O’Brien, and the adored father of Johanna (Loren), Hugh (Kim), Gerard (Denise), and Deirdre (Russ).
Hugh was born in Inwood, New York City to Michael and Johanna Lennon, who hailed from Longford, Ireland. God does something great with all our lives. He allows us freely to live it. It’s our responsibility to love it for His glory. Hughie loved life and loved his wife Peggy and family to no end.
Hugh is predeceased by beloved brothers Michael, William, Thomas, and Patrick, as well as brother-in-law, Robert O’Brien. Hugh’s loving family extended to include his brother-in-law James O’Brien and wife, Valerie. Hugh had many loving nieces and nephews and beloved friends.
A man of many roles. He began his journey as a Holy Cross Brother and later served as a dedicated Fire fighter at Ladder 30 in Harlem, Lieutenant at Engine 18 in Greenwich Village, and Ladder 52 in Riverdale, New York. Hugh’s life was abundant, filled with love and marked by his deep connection to faith.
He met his bride at the Jersey Shore, and together they spent many years in Riverdale in the Bronx; and summers were cherished in the Catskill Mountains, where he reveled in flower gardening and breathtaking, scenic views. Eventually, they made the mountains their permanent home, and also enjoy the lifestyle of snowbirds in Florida.
A vibrant and enthusiastic soul, Hugh approached life with unwavering love for people.
His legacy lives on in the hearts of his beautiful grandchildren: Brian, Jessica, Tiernan, Jeffrey, Veronica, Devin, Justine, Rae, Rory and Nicholas; as well as his great-grandchildren Geo and Paxton.
In this time of sorrow we find solace in knowing that Hugh lived each day with the utmost devotion to our Lord.
As he would fondly say, “ Love You No Buts “, we are heartbroken and will miss him dearly.
We Love You No Buts!
In addition to your prayers for Hugh, and in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to honor his memory by supporting the New York firefighters Burn Center Foundation at 21 Ash Loop, Bronx, NY 10475. Or online at www.nycburncenter.com
May he rest in eternal peace with the Divine.
A memorial mass will be held on February 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Anastasia Catholic Church, Fort Pierce.
