Huzwith J. McMillan

Huzwith “Mac” McMillan, 85, of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023, following a long-term illness. Huzwith is preceded in death by his parents, Bevan and Virginia McMillan, sister Elmina and brother VanDerMark.

Huzwith was born in St. Vincent and The Grenadines and later moved to Trinidad and Tobago, London, England, Brooklyn New York, and Detroit, Michigan before retiring to Florida in 2002. He was employed by Ford Motor Company before deciding to become an entrepreneur. Huzwith was the first grocer to open a Caribbean grocery store in the City of Detroit, where West Indians and other nationals could purchase tropical products that reminded them of their ‘old country’. He traveled to Chicago, New York, and other places across the country to procure items for his store. Huzwith was well liked and appreciated by all who knew him. He and his store were featured in a local newspaper for his kind and caring spirit.

Huzwith is survived by his loving wife, Amelia “Bernie” who he was married to for over 55 years, children Mechelle, Jeannine, and Jerome. Grandchildren Xavier, Jonathan, Maxwell, and Ayva, sisters Madlain and Hurlhernia, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Huzwith, affectionately known as Grandpa and “Pawpaw” by his grandchildren, will be greatly missed.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023 from 10AM to 12PM with a service to begin at 12PM at the Haisley Funeral Home and Cremation Services Tribute Center 2041 SW Bayshore Blvd Port St. Lucie, FL 34984. Burial will follow at Rolling Oaks Cemetery.
