James C. Crawford

James C. Crawford, 81, died June 14, 2009, in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Jim was born in Sebring, Florida, to W. B. Crawford and Eleanor Abernathy Crawford. He attended public school in Sebring and graduated from Lees McRay Jr. College in Banner Elk, NC in 1949 and from the University of Florida with a BS Degree in Building Construction. He was a veteran of the Korean War. June, 1956, he moved to Fort Pierce and was employed by W. W. Arnold Construction, Inc as Estimator and Vice President of Construction. November, 1971, Jim started Crawford Construction. One of the major projects completed by Crawford Construction was the main office of First Home Federal Savings & Loan Association in Sebring, FL.

He was a member of the Fort Pierce Lions Club since 1974, served in all Club and District offices, was elected to International Board as a Director for two years in July, 1991; was a Mason since 1971 and was associated with Hoyt C. Murphy, Inc., Realtors for several years.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s memory to the Florida Lions Foundation for the Blind, P. O. Box 127, Interlachen, FL 32148-0127.

Survivors include his daughter, Lucinda Crawford (Eston) Douglas of Fort Pierce, FL; sister, Sarah Hennessee of Greensboro, NC; brother, A. Howard Crawford of Sebring, FL; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents, W. B. and Eleanor Crawford; sister, Margaret Crawford; brothers, Byrd Crawford and John K. Crawford; daughter, Faith Rees Crawford; and, his wife, Joanie Crawford.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, June 19th from 1 to 3:00 PM, followed by a Service at 3:00 at the Haisley Funeral Home Chapel.
