James Denmark

James Denmark, 90, died August 23, 2009.

Mr. Denmark was a lifelong resident of Ft. Pierce, Florida.

He retired from the FEC Railroad after 43 years as Yardmaster. James and his wife
owned and operated the children’s store, Denmark’s, from 1952-1987. He graduated
from Fort Pierce High School, attended Oglethorpe University for a year and then went
into the U.S. Army serving from 1941-1946 during WWII and was recipient of the
Bronze Star. He met his wife, Estelle, while taking his flight lesson from her and then
went on to get his Commercial Pilot’s License. At the age of 85, Mr. Denmark went up
on his last flight as a pilot, flying over Ft. Pierce and Vero Beach. He was a member of
Indian River Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his sons, John A. (Ellen) Denmark of Ft. Pierce, FL and Gerald W.
(Cindy) Denmark of Lorena, TX; daughter, Cheryl D. (Vic) Rowe of Ft. Pierce, FL; brother, Richard Denmark of Cookeville, TN; grandchildren, John Denmark, Heather Key, April Rogers, Lance Denmark, Amanda Nail, Laura Page, Christina McKenzie, Ashley Rowe and James Denmark; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle M. Denmark.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Indian River Presbyterian Church, 2499 Virginia Avenue, Fort Pierce, FL 34982.

Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, August 28, 2009 from 5-7 PM at Haisley Funeral Home. A service will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at White City Cemetery.
