James Anderson Dodds, 83, died March 24, 2013 in Vero Beach, FL.
Mr. Dodds was born in Des Moines, Iowa and moved to Ft. Pierce 22 years ago coming from Maryland.
Jim proudly served in the US Army as an L-19 Bird Dog reconnaissance pilot in Korea. Following his tour he returned to Ft. Bliss, TX where he met his loving and caring wife of 60 years, Joan Southwick of Wildwood, NJ.
Starting a family and 30+ year career in aviation insurance, Dodds relocated and opened offices for Avemco Aviation Insurance in Oklahoma City, OK, Orlando, FL, and San Jose, CA over a 12 year span before settling in Derwood, Maryland. Dodds retired as a principal of Avemco in 1990 after orchestrating the development of AOPA-Avemco campus complex at Frederick Municipal Airport in Frederick, MD.
He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Ft. Pierce, FL. An avid golfer and animal lover who also enjoyed music, Jim spent many years flying General Aviation aircraft across the US and the Caribbean for business and for fun with family and friends.
Dodds also leaves behind his grateful children, David Dodds of Ocean City, MD and Carol Dodds, her husband, Homer Yost, and a grandson, Landon Yost, of Frederick, MD; their lovable chocolate lab, Beaux, and many dear family and friends.
