James Wesley Duncan, 60, died August 31, 2009 in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Mr. Duncan was born in Lynchburg, Virginia and moved to Port St. Lucie in 1954.
James retired in 1997 as a Captain from the Ft. Pierce Police Department and has been with the Martin County Sheriff’s Department for the last 12 years. He graduated in 1996 from the Southern Police Institute University of Louisville and was Officer of the Year in 1984 by the Fort Pierce Police Department. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and loved to travel and spend time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Livia L. Duncan of Port St. Lucie, FL; daughters, Jodi L. Hampton of Ft. Pierce, FL and Kellie Harris of Port St. Lucie, FL; son, Charles J. Slaggy of Canton, OH; sisters, Barbara A. Florentine of Hobe Sound, FL and Melissa Townsand of Homestead, FL; brothers, Billy Duncan of Lynchburg, VA, Rick Duncan of Ocala, FL and Kelvin Duncan of Buckeye, AZ; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his sons, Jeffery J. Slaggy and Travis L. Duncan and parents, James R. and Blanche Duncan.
Services: Visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2009 from 5-8 PM at Haisley Funeral Home. A service will be conducted on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
