James “Jim” Joseph Gibbons, a remarkable soul born on September 1, 1951, took his final breath peacefully on July 22, 2024, enveloped in the love of his family. True to his spirited nature, he maintained his unwavering strength until the very end. Jim’s journey began in the charming town of Fort Pierce, FL, where he nurtured lifelong friendships that blossomed around him like vibrant flowers. No matter where life led him, he always returned with new companions who were drawn to his warmth and charisma. From a young age, Jim was filled with an insatiable wanderlust, a passion for travel that carved out a tapestry of breathtaking adventures, each thread woven into memory with his beloved family, ensuring their days were painted with awe and joy.
Left behind in the wake of his passing are his devoted wife of 54 years, Brenda, who stood by his side through thick and thin, their son Derrick (with Kristina), their daughter Sydney, and his adored granddaughter, Kate — a true legacy of love and connection.
Jim was a man of profound dedication, pouring his heart and soul into every job he undertook — from the hard labor of construction and the complexities of insurance sales to overseas farming adventures and finally, the cultivation of organic produce right back in Fort Pierce. His word was a sacred promise, a bond forged in trust and integrity. A beacon of compassion, he derived joy from extending a helping hand to anyone in need, seamlessly repairing what was broken, both in material things and in the hearts of those around him. Tinkering was more than just a hobby for him; it was an expression of his desire to create and mend, reflecting his generous spirit.
A service to honor his extraordinary life will be held at Haisley Funeral Home in Fort Pierce at 11 am on Saturday, August 3. In lieu of flowers, Jim would have loved for contributions to go towards the FFA, 4-H, or local no-kill and wildlife animal shelters, embodying his lifelong commitment to nurturing life in all its forms. Casual attire or Hawaiian shirts are warmly encouraged, celebrating the vibrant, joyful spirit he brought to every moment. The family will host a gathering immediately following the service.
Additionally, the Gibbons family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Lawnwood Hospital’s ER and ICU as well as the amazing staff at Treasure Coast Hospice for their compassion, professionalism, and unparalleled care.
