James Gordon “Sarge” Meyer, Sr., 71, died August 19, 2011 in Gainesville, Florida.
Mr. Meyer was born in Darby, Florida and moved to Ft. Pierce in 1960.
He retired from the Fire Department after 32 years as a Battalion Chief and from the A & P after 34 years. He was currently employed by St. Lucie County Mosquito Control. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Marines.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Betty Barker Meyer of Ft. Pierce, FL; daughters, Teresa Smeltzer of Jacksonville, FL; Sherry Clark of Ft. Pierce, FL; Cynthia Kotthaus of Ft. Pierce, FL; son, James G. Meyer, Jr. of Ft. Pierce, FL; sisters, Onyx Burke of Tampa, FL and Lillie Eastwood of Lake Wales, FL; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Services: Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 from 5-8 PM at Haisley Funeral Home. A service will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at White City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Haisley Funeral & Cremation Service.
