James H. Thomas, Sr., 84, died Saturday, August 19th at the Highlands of Fort Thomas, Kentucky where he was a resident.He is survived by a son, James Thomas, Jr. of Cold Spring, KY, two daughters, Pamela Thomas of New York City and Barbara Thomas Faitella of Fort Pierce, FL, and three grandchildren, James Thomas III of Atlanta, Susan Thomas of New York City, and Virginia Faitella of Fort Pierce. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Virginia Dearman Thomas and by a son, Timothy Thomas.The son of Jess and Jesse Thomas, Mr. Thomas was born and reared in Charleston, WV, where he graduated from Charleston High School and Morris Harvey College. He was a Navy pilot during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. From 1952 to 2002, Mr. Thomas lived in Fort Pierce, FL, where he was a teacher, coach and administrator in the St. Lucie County schools. He coached four different sports during his career and was the first head basketball coach at Dan McCarty High School in Fort Pierce. In his later years, Mr. Thomas was an avid golfer and an active member of Indian Hills Country Club. He was a member of Indian River Presbyterian Church.Memorials may be made to the Treasure Coast Hospices, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997.The family will receive friends Saturday, September 2nd from 10-11 AM at Haisley Funeral Home, Ft. Pierce. A service will follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. The service will be conducted by Rev. James H. Thomas III, grandson of the deceased. Burial will follow at White City Cemetery.
