James (Jim) Michael Hicks, age 70 passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on December 26, 2024. He was a devoted Husband, Father & "Papa". He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Deborah Hicks, his three daughters, Joanna Cunningham, Vanessa Brown, and Amberlyn Proulx. Also survived by his seven grandchildren, Kayla Suerth, Allyson Cunningham, Rylee Hicks, Dylan Brown, Isabelle Proulx, Daniel Proulx, and Sawyer Proulx. He is survived by his 3 siblings, John Hicks, William Hicks, and Linda Ellis. He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. Hicks and Marie Janek.
Jim was born in New York, New York on May 18, 1954. His family settled in Hialeah, Florida where he grew up. Jim joined the Air Force in 1973 where he was an Intelligence trainee. After his time in the Air Force, he worked for Sears Roebuck as an HVAC and appliance technician for 20 years. He was then employed by Martin County for over 10 years as their lead HVAC Technician. Jim was forced into early retirement in 2014 because of health issues.
Jim was a devoted Christian and faithful member of the Church of Christ for over 40 years. He truly loved the Lord. He was able to start Christian Homes for Children in Fort Pierce, Florida which helped foster children. He had a desire to help anyone in need, constantly giving of his time and talents to others.
Jim had a great sense of humor and always had those around him laughing. He loved sports and was a pretty good athlete, playing on softball and volleyball leagues throughout his life. Always very competitive! Often winning his fantasy football leagues. A loyal Dolphins fan, "Go Fins"! Jim had a love for all different genres of Music. He loved to be on the water fishing, catching the Big One!
But most of all Jim loved his family. Jim leaves behind a legacy of gentle strength, grace, integrity, a true man of God.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 25th, 2025 starting at 2PM at The Saints Golf Course 2601 SE Morningside Blvd Port St. Lucie, FL 34952, Additional parking for the celebration may be found at the south end of The Saints' parking lot.
