James Coonrod
James “Jim” Coonrod died November 15, 2014 in Vero Beach, Florida.
Mr. Coonrod was born to Gordon and Elizabeth Coonrod in Waterloo, Iowa on September 1, 1922.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a Bombardier in a B17 Flying Fortress, flying 30 missions. He was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf clusters and many other medals and ribbons. He was recalled to the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He retired as a Lt. Col. on December 1, 1967. He married Nancy King on December 16, 1967.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy and three children, Linda Brown in Sunnyvale, CA, Cherie Hinojosa and her husband, George in Albuquerque, NM and David J. Coonrod and wife, Paula of Waxhaw, NC; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
