James Leland Percy

Jim Percy, age 61, died at home in Port St. Lucie on Saturday, February 28, 2009. Born May 29, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of Helen and Harland Percy. The Percy family moved to Fort Pierce in 1952. Jim graduated from Dan McCarty High School in 1966 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from the University of Florida in 1970.

Employed in the field of agriculture for many years, Jim was General Manager of Cow Creek Ranch, Agricultural Loan Officer at Sun Bank of St. Lucie County, Fresh Fruit Manager at Ocean Spray Cranberries in Vero Beach, and General Manager of Winter Haven Growers Association. Most recently he was a real estate agent with Mark Walters & Company. He was on the Board of Directors at Citrus World (Florida’s Natural), Florida Citrus Processors, Florida Citrus Packers, and Highland Exchange Sales Cooperative.

Jim was a longtime member of Indian River Presbyterian Church in Fort Pierce. He was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and wife of 39 years, Julie Sample Percy, father, Harland Percy and brother-in-law, Chris Talley. Survivors include his sons, GYSGT USMC Jamie (Laura) Percy of Fort Pierce and Major USMC Jason (Lorene) Percy of Seaside, CA, four grandchildren, his mother Helen Percy of Brevard, NC, brother, Jeff Percy (Judy) of Fort Pierce, FL and sister, Joan Talley of Cape Girardeau, MO.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Treasure Coast Hospice in memory of James L. Percy to 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM March 5, 2009 at Haisley Funeral Home. A service will be held at Indian River Presbyterian Church on March 6, 2009 at 4:00 PM with Dana Allin officiating.
