Jane Clark

October 8, 1928 — August 6, 2024

Fort Pierce

Born Betty Jane Deisroth on October 8, 1928, in Abington, PA, Jane Clark was a dynamo from the start. As the second daughter of Rita and Clarence Deisroth, Jane's early life was marked by a whirlwind of athletic endeavors. From ice skating and field hockey to basketball and synchronized swimming, she dabbled in it all. But it was tennis that captured her heart and soul, a passion she nurtured for an incredible 68 years.

Jane graduated from Centenary Junior College and Bucknell University with a degree in chemistry. In 1951, she married Donald Clark, and together they embarked on a journey that would see them trading the snowy streets of Philadelphia for the sunny shores of Fort Pierce in 1957. Their weekends were often spent at Pepper Park, a beloved beach spot with a long, flat shoreline that evoked fond memories of Jane’s childhood summers at the Jersey Shore, despite the quirks of the wooden bridge.

Jane's life was a tapestry of dedication and service. After devoting herself to her family as a stay-at-home mom until 1970, she transitioned into a fulfilling career as a middle school science teacher, shaping young minds for 20 years. Her passion for helping others continued post-retirement as a Pink Lady at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center, where she spent 26 years creating bonds with those she considered family. She continued to play tennis (doubles) far into her retirement.

Jane leaves behind a legacy of love and vitality, cherished by her four children: Janie Clark Hinkle (Mike), Jimmy Clark, Donna Clark Johnstone, and Peggy Clark Emerson (Buddy) and her five grandchildren, Megan Hinkle Quinn (Brendan), Sam Johnstone (Kristin), Logan Johnstone (Stephanie), Clark Emerson and Ollie Emerson. She also delighted in the company of her three young great-grandchildren, Adrian Johnstone (4), Parker Lee Johnstone (1.5) and Makenna Jane Quinn (7 mo.).

Jane's legacy of kindness, enthusiasm and the affectionate moniker of ‘Saint Jane’ will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her. In honor of her spirit and the many lives she touched, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Treasure Coast Foundation, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997.

A Celebration of Life for Jane is being planned for her birthday in early October.
