Janet Lucile Cope Blackwelder
Janet C. Blackwelder, 85, died September 30, 2011 with her family beside her. She was born in Akron, Ohio and lived in Ft. Pierce for 47 years coming from Sanford, Florida.
Janet graduated from Jackson Township High School in North Canton, Ohio where she played the French horn in the marching band. She attended nurses training at the University of Akron. She was an airplane pilot and the original owner/operator of Chick-n-Treat in Ft. Pierce. She was an artist, bowler, and explorer and loved to boat, fish, cook, relax at the beach, and vacation at her cabin in Murphy, NC.
Mrs. Blackwelder was a past member of Ruth Chapter 7 Order of the Eastern Star, Ft. Pierce Moose, American Legion Post 40 Auxiliary, and Garden Club. She was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include her daughters Jean (Bob) Gardner of Florida and Susan Jones of Montana; granddaughters Kim of Montana, Brittany and Christy of Florida; grandson Mike of New Mexico; great granddaughters Kaylee and Abby of Florida; great grandsons Alexander of Montana and James of New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Dwight M. Blackwelder, Jr. and sons Dwight M. Blackwelder, III and John R. Blackwelder.
Services: A Graveside Service will be held Friday October 7, 2011 at 10:00 AM by Order of the Eastern Star at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
