Janice Hancock, born Janice Margaret Robinson, entered this world on March 1, 1938. She was born in Fort Pierce, Florida to parents Henrik and Madelyn Robinson. She was raised on the family’s homestead in White City, riding horses and making mudpies and memories with her brother, cousins and grandparents, “Bop” and “Gramma”. She attended White City Elementary and later graduated from Dan McCarty High School in 1956. After high school, Janice pursued a degree in nursing from Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, graduating in 1959. Immediately following graduation, she traveled to New York City where she worked as a registered nurse at New York Hospital. No matter where life’s roads took her, her heart always led her home to White City. She spent a lifetime caring for others in both sickness and health and was most recognized for the decades she worked with Dr. Viado at the Fort Pierce Walk-in Medical Clinic.
After retirement, Janice was able to focus on her other loves— home and family. She not only enjoyed gardening and yardwork but raised cattle and horses too—a nod to her childhood days on the family farm. Many days were spent sipping coffee on the swing, reminiscing with her family and friends (with her beloved Boston Terrier, Peggy Sue, at her feet) while watching the animals in the fields.
Janice traded in farm life for her eternal one on February 7th, 2022. She will forever be missed by those who survive her: a son, Dr. Scott Henrik Hancock; a daughter and son-in-law, Robyn Hancock (Troy) Church; grandchildren, Madelyn Denise, Rebekah Madelyn, Nathanael Aaron, Olyvia Anne, Adam Christopher, Emily Jan, Christopher, Samantha and great-grandson, Caden. Waiting to welcome her to her heavenly home was her husband, Guilford O. (Von) Hancock, her parents Henrik and Madelyn, brother Richard D. Robinson, great-granddaughter, MaryKathryn “Katy” Church, and cherished friend R.K. Tomlinson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997.
