Jean Horton, 80, died Saturday, March 24, 2007.Jean was born in Georgia, the daughter of a Baptist minister, and eventually became an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Fort Pierce. She received her education from Mars Hill College, Mercer University, and Florida Atlantic University. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Psi Chapter, various professional organizations and the American Orchid Society. She was employed at Southern Bell in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and served as secretary of the Graduate Division at Case Institute of Technology (now Case-Western Reserve University). Jean was also secretary in the engineering offices of Freeman H. Horton and Associates, Bradenton, Florida. Her educational career also included teaching third grade at Fort Pierce Elementary School, then English at St. Lucie County Junior High School, and at Lincoln Park School. Jean was also Director of the Florida Mid-Eastern Teacher Education Center, and Director of the Teacher Education Center for St. Lucie County. After retiring, she was the Education Director/Coordinator of the hospital –homebound education program at Harbor Shores adolescent psychiatric facility.Jean was preceded in death by her parents: The Reverend M.D. Reed and Madge Reed and by her husband Donald M. Horton Sr. Jean is survived by her brother M.D. Reed, Jr., sister Gwen Gordh, son D.M. Horton Jr. and his wife Carmen, daughters E.J. Horton and her husband Kevin, and Mandy Horton, granddaughter Sarah Edwards, grandson Lee Edwards; and the Reed, Gordh, Morris and Horton families.Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity or the following: Hibiscus Children’s Center, P.O.
