Jean Page Hoskins, 90, died peacefully at her home on August 1, 2022, with her family by her side.
Born on February 4, 1932, Jean grew up in Glasgow, Kentucky, and graduated from Western Kentucky University with a teaching degree in 1952. After graduation, she was recruited with some other teachers to come to St. Lucie County to teach within the school district. She taught a first grade class at the newly built Fairlawn Elementary School. After a few months, Jean thought she had made a mistake in coming to Fort Pierce, but she soon met a young dentist, Dr. Paul Hoskins, who was checking the teeth and explaining proper dental hygiene to the students at Fairlawn. Jean and Paul were married on July 9, 1954, and Jean loved living in Fort Pierce.
For many years, Jean worked as the office manager of her husband’s dental practice. They enjoyed playing golf, spending time together as a family, and meeting friends for dinner at the Pelican Yacht Club. An avid golfer, Jean won the first golf tournament she entered at Indian Hills Country Club. Known as “Kiki” by her granddaughters, she was excited to see them playing golf. Her best golfing advice was, “Hit them high and let them fly!” After Paul retired in 1990, Jean continued to play golf, but soon began playing bridge at the Pelican where she had numerous friends. She was also a member of the Vero Beach Church of Christ.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Hoskins and their son, Mark Hoskins. She is survived by her son, Steve Hoskins and his wife, Beth of Fort Pierce, and granddaughters, Taylor Hoskins of Fort Pierce, and Page Hoskins Stalzer and her husband TJ of Minneapolis. Interment will be in Glasgow, Kentucky at a later date.
