Jewell Hockaday, 97, passed from this life on August 3, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Selmer, TN and graduated from Selmer High School. She married Arnold K. “Tiny” Hockaday and then moved to Fort Pierce, FL in 1954. She was a charter member of Westside Baptist Church.
For 97 years, Jewel created a comfortable home that said “There’s no place like Grandma’s”. The gathering place for 60 years of generations coming and going.
Many generations have enjoyed Jewel’s cooking….and no one will ever forget her peanut butter pie or homemade fudge.
Jewel also had the green thumb. You could always bring your withered plants to her and she would bring them healthy and hearty. And what a woman, teaching all the grandchildren to fish, trips to Tennessee and park play days. When she was unable to attend church, she would sit by her window and wore out her hymnal singing her favorite hymns.
She is remembered with great love by her daughter Janet Brautigan; 3 grandchildren, Candace White, Bryan Varnes and Tammy Goobeck; 6 Great grandchildren Johnny, Brady, Troy, Bryan II, Dylan and Taylor; 8 Great-great grandchildren Bradyn, Ali, J.D., Jezalee, Christopher, Braylin, Jaxton, Aubrey.
She is preceded in death by her Father, Everett Henson, Mother, Ethel Henson, daughter Glenda Varnes, Sisters Alcie Mae, Ewell, Ernestine, Brother James and great grandson Cody West.
