Joan Hancock Forget

November 14, 1930 — December 17, 2018

Joan Hancock Forget, 88, of Fort Pierce peacefully passed away on December 17, 2018.

She was surrounded by her family, including Louis Forget, her husband of 69 years. Born in London on November 14, 1930, Joan grew up in Newcastle-on-Tyne and was evacuated at the age of 9 to Heversham during World War II.

Joan moved to Florida with her family in 1948 when she was 18 years old. She and Louis met on a date arranged by a friend when Louis was home on Christmas break while attending the University of Florida.

It was the beginning of a lifelong love for the two, who married the following November 24, 1949. They enjoyed attending mass, traveling, watching Gator football games, and being with their three children.

Joan was beloved by all who knew her because she was quietly gracious and kind to everyone. Her grandchildren enjoyed attending Nana’s tea parties and hearing stories of her childhood in England.

In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by sons, Louis, Jr. (Gayle) and Phillip (Melanie); daughter, Susan Forget Cassens (Steve) all of Fort Pierce; and her sister, Barbara Rigby of Castlecombe, England. Louis and Joan were blessed with eight grandchildren – Louis Courtney Forget (Mandy), Heather Forget, Christopher Cassens, Brad Forget, Brent Forget (Christina), Michael Cassens (Ashley), Anna Forget Babcock (Bryce), and Scott Cassens. They also have five great-grandchildren, including Preston Forget, Oliver Forget, Dane Babcock, Olivia Forget, and Merritt Cassens.

Joan is predeceased by her mother, Nancy Hutchinson, father, William Hancock, and stepfather, Sid Hutchinson.
