Joan was born on August 3, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York to John and Emily Martin. After meeting the love of her life, Dennis James Peterkins, they soon married and moved to Miami, Florida. There in Miami, they raised their 3 daughters, Linda, Gail, and Cathy. Joan worked with the school system in Miami until her retirement and they moved to Port St. Lucie.
Joan was a kind, caring, and giving person, who saw the importance of a relationship with God and her family. She became a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church. It was there she served her Lord and church, through volunteering.
Joan was a proud mother, and grandmother and loved spending time with her family. She was always willing to help someone in need and never complained. Joan was happy and shared her love of life with family, friends and anyone who needed a smile. She was an amazing person and set and example for all of us to follow. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is now with her Lord and reunited with all her loved ones who went before her.
