Joanne Elizabeth Carlton Humphries

JoAnne was a 7 generational Floridian who was born to Sidney Wright Carlton and Jaqueline Victoria Hockenhull Carlton on May 13th 1952 in Fort Pierce, Florida.
JoAnne was a lifelong resident of St. Lucie County where she and her husband, Fred Humphries, raised their two children, Houston and Clayton. Together they operated Circle I Ranch. After graduating Dan McCarty, Joanne continued her education at the University of Georgia. She was a lifelong member of the St. Lucie community Theater where she starred and directed several plays in addition to serving four terms as President. Joanne won multiple “Best Actress” awards during her time with the theater. She was truly talented with her craft, and continued her love for theater by becoming the co-founder of the Pineapple Play House here in Fort Pierce. Later on in life Joanne accepted a job at X34 News as their local weather lady where she was loved by her viewers. Joanne expressed a love for genealogy and was an active member in several geological organizations such as The Daughter of the American Revolution and Cora Stickney Harper Chapter. This is where she served selflessly as regent in (1982 - 1984), historian (1978 - 1982), paged for 10 years at Florida state Conferences, chosen twice as Florida Outstand Junior, national page for 6 years in Washington, Chief in Public Relations, as well as Southeastern Division Winner in 1988. Joanne was just 4 months shy of receiving her 50-year pin from DAR. Joanne was also a member of the United Daughter of the Confederacy and Roanoke Colony research.
Above all she loved her family. JoAnne is survived by her loving husband Fred, daughter Houston, stepchildren Mark Humphries, April Hall, and Charles “Chuck” Stewart. Grandchildren Jaxson Alexander, Kayla Rigel, Brayden Rigel, and Courtney Humphries. She was a great great aunt to many nieces and nephews.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her mother Jacquline Hockenhull Carlton Remmerswaal, father Sidney Wright Carlton, brother Walter Carlton, half brother Richard , and her beloved son Clayton Carlton Humphries.
Her viewing will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Haisley Funeral Home, 3015 Okeechobee Road, Fort Pierce. A service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 210 S. Indian River Dr., Fort Pierce. A private burial will follow at the Carlton Cemetery.
