John Callahan, 96, passed away at the home of his daughter, Nellie Callahan on January 19, 2018.
Mr. Callahan was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 12, 1921, son of Mary and John Callahan of County Donegal, Ireland. He was married to Margaret Callahan (nee Watson) for 71 years, mother of his 10 children.
He was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Prep and Villanova University. He served in WWII as a Naval Lieutenant in charge of a landing craft tank, landing on Normandy’s Omaha Beach on D-Day. His landing craft carried 140 enlisted men and four army officers.
Survivors include his children, Thomasine of Portland, OR, Margaret of Maryland, Kathy of Maryland, Nellie of Port St. Lucie, FL, Michael Denville of New Jersey, Kelly of Maryland, Megan of New Jersey and Sean of Key West, FL; 11 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his children, Mary and Paul.
Services: A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Holy Redeemer Church, 1454 SW Mapp Road, Palm City, FL 34990.
