John G. Pierce, 59, died May 22, 2006 in Port St. Lucie. He was born March 27, 1947 in Memphis, TN and had lived in St. Lucie County since 1971. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He worked with NASA through the Gemini and Apollo missions and was part of the launch team that placed the first man on the moon. For the past 35 years he has been an employee of Florida Power and Light, earning his journeyman lineman certification and serving most recently as a radio communications specialist.
In his free time, John was an avid fisherman who loved the water. His passion was fly-fishing, and he taught himself to tie his own flies. He was a skilled craftsman and had planned to start his own woodworking business in his retirement. He was also a handyman extraordinaire who could fix anything.John lived for his family, and he is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years, Patricia, his two children, Kimberly Lorraine Pierce of Portland, OR and John Robert Pierce of Port St. Lucie, and his mother-in-law, Helene Ludwig of Titusville, FL.
He was predeceased by his parents, Irene Metcalf and Billy Jo Pierce and his brother, William R. Pierce.
