Jose C. Almonte was the son of Gregorio Almonte (nickname Don Goyo) and Mercedes Frias. Jose C. Almonte, 92, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020 in the comfort of his home. Jose was born on April 23, 1928 in the city of Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic. Jose was a part of a large family that consisted of 7 brothers and 3 sisters.
Jose is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rosa C. Almonte, sons: Ramon of Atlanta, GA, Jose Alberto (Sonja) of Huntington, WV and Jose Francisco (deceased), daughters: Aracelis, Josie, Mercedes (Stephen), and Rosita all of Port Saint Lucie, FL., 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one surviving brother: Gregorio Almonte (89) of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and many nieces and nephews.
Jose was a hard-working soft-spoken man. After the passing of his father, he dropped out of school at the young age of 12, to work and support his mother and siblings. He learned how to operate heavy machinery, which gave him the experience to work for Rinker. Because of this, he supported and contributed to his nieces and their schooling. He financially supported his siblings as well.
After Jose’s marriage to Rosa, his wife of 65 years, they relocated to Florida and dedicated their lives to serving the Lord. Through his life he wore many hats being known as a devoted husband, father, loving grandfather, and friend.
He was highly respected as being a Pentecostal co-pastor to a Christian church. Jose loved to teach Sunday School, preach, and help commute church goers to and from services, which is what he loved most. With Rosa, they started the journey of establishing churches from Miami to Port Saint Lucie where they settled. Jose never complained, even with the expectations and responsibilities of the church. With his wife being cherished above all, he was a good provider and a compassionate man with very few limits, which made him one of a kind!
His children were also precious to him. He loved fishing, horse racing, boxing matches, and baseball. Since their retirement from leadership of the church, they were able to enjoy their life by traveling and appreciating the time with each other and their family. Jose has touched many lives over the years with his kindness and presence. His love and faith in God kept him strong and at peace until his last moments. He was a devoted Christian and knew God which is why we know we will see him again. We thank God for allowing Jose to be part of our lives and he will be truly missed. Love you Papi!
