Joseph Guy Schulte

November 1, 1948 — April 9, 2020

Joseph Guy Schulte, 71, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 8, 2020. Joe was a kind and gentle soul whose generosity knew no bounds and will be deeply missed by his many friends and family.

Joe was born and raised in Miami, Florida, and graduated from Coral Gables High School in 1966 before studying business at Valdosta State University. Soon after, he earned his broker’s license and pursued a career in real estate, running his own business until he retired in 2008. He met the love of his life, Paula Anne, during a double date in 1978. They married in 1980 and were inseparable until Paula’s passing in 2012.

Joe enjoyed buying and selling properties throughout South Florida and loved spending time on the water. Combining these passions, he, along with family members, purchased property on Broad Key, an island just off the coast of Key Largo. Joe cherished spending weekends with his family on the island, now a University of Miami Research Station, and invested considerable finances and effort into restoring it after Hurricane Andrew struck in 1992.

In the early 2000s, Joe and Paula moved to South Hutchinson Island, in Ft. Pierce, where they enjoyed the quiet beach life. Joe proudly walked 2-3 miles each morning and later in the day would stroll over to Jetty Park to relax by the water. Joe loved eating surf ‘n’ turf -- insisting on having his food “plain, with nothing on it.”

More than anything, Joe adored his three beautiful grandchildren, Austin Guy Schulte of Miami, and Forest Joseph Hoben and Lotus Grace Anne Hoben of New York. He is also survived by his loving children, son Erik Guy Schulte of Miami and daughter Stephanie Sinclair Hoben (Bryan) of New York; as well as his brother, Michael Patterson of Hollywood, Florida. In addition to his wife of 32 years, Joe was predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth and George H. Schulte.

Joe will be buried alongside his wife in a private ceremony at All Saints Cemetery in Jensen Beach, with a celebration of his life taking place at a later date. Contributions in Joe’s memory can be made to the Paula & Joe Schulte Grant program, established by the charity founded by their daughter, Too Young to Wed . The grant program will honor their spirit of serving the most vulnerable during times of great need. Donations can be made online or mailed to Too Young to Wed , 1112 Main St. First FL, Peekskill, NY 10566.
