June Johnell, 82, died unexpectedly November 21, 2006, at home after a brief illness. She was born June 11, 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland. She married Louis J. Johnell, Jr. on July 9, 1942 in Wilmington, Delaware. They moved to Port St. Lucie in 1961 and finally settled in Ft. Pierce in 1966.June was a loving wife and mother, who loved people, cherished life long friendships and enjoyed making new friends. She was generous, helped the poor and needy and loved to help animals through support to animal foundations.In 1961 when Ft. Pierce opened the new Sears at Searstown, she was one of the first employees and was employed there until she retired in 1986.The last several years of her life she felt privileged that she was able to be a “Lector of the Word” at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Ft. Pierce.During the years, June was a competitive bowler and won many trophies and awards. She also was an active member of Indian Hills Country Club and president of the Women’s Golf Association for 2 years. She later became a member of the Gator Trace Country Club, where she won a tournament as late as this year. Up until her bout with pneumonia this last year, June tremendously enjoyed playing golf with her many friends at least twice a week and bridge with the ‘girls’ once a week.She is predeceased by her father, Fred Gorder, her mother, Mae Holmes, and her sister, Jane Grand-Jean.Survivors include her son, Glenn Johnell of Rivera Beach, her daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and George Gugliemelli of Sebastian, and Sheryl and Jim Oliver of Sebastian. She had five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.Her husband of 64 years, Lou Johnell, joined her in heaven 12/8/06, just 17 days after she left this earth.
