Kay Viola Mayer, age 75, died April 8, 2015 in Fort Pierce, Florida after a long and courageous battle with COPD.
Kay Viola Mayer was born in Gary, Indiana in 1939 and moved to Florida 32 years ago and has been a resident of Port St. Lucie for the past 25 years.
Kay was an extremely loving and beautiful mother to her three children and considered them to be her greatest accomplishment in life. Kay was so proud of her children as well as her grandchildren and definitely took pride in running a tight ship. Kay was also known amongst the family as quite the card shark; so much so that everybody knew their demise if they were unfortunate enough to sit directly next to her at the card table. Kay absolutely loved to laugh and her laughter was contagious.
Kay was a licensed cosmetologist for many, many years and eventually became a cosmetology instructor for 10 years before her retirement. Kay was a very faithful woman of God and put others before herself. Kay was a true heroine and courageous warrior.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years Thomas A. Mayer, of Port Saint Lucie, daughters, Kathy Cavaretta (Charles), of Orlando and Cynthia Schiller (Donald), of Hobart, Indiana; son, Scott Mayer (Sarah), of Port Saint Lucie; grandchildren: Amy Cavaretta, Jennifer Cavaretta, Alexa “Lexi” Schiller, Thomas “TJ” Schiller, and Jewel Mayer. She was preceded in death by her father and mother Jennings and Nina McCracken; brothers Jay and Ray McCracken.
