He was a contractor in the construction industry and served in the US Navy. He was an avid fisher & boater. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle & attending biking events.
Survivors include sons, Robert Richard Rains of Tallahassee, FL and Thomas Alden Rains of Fort Pierce, FL; daughter, Patricia (Alan) Jean Geddes of Ft. Pierce, FL; and grandson, Zachary Wayne Geddes of Fort Pierce, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Merritt and Adeleine Rains, Sr.; step mother, Julia Rains; wife, Shirley Jean Rains and a brother, Al Rains.
