Larry Wade Brown, 78, of Port Saint Lucie, FL passed from this life due to prolonged complications from cancer on Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Treasure Coast Hospice of Stuart, FL. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM on June 3, 2016 at Haisley Funeral Home, 2041 SW Bayshore Blvd, Port Saint Lucie, FL.
Larry was born in Des Moines, IA to Wade and Cecelia Brown. He is survived by his wife, Marlys of 37 years, son Brandon Brown and wife Brittany, Waterbury, CT, daughter Brittany Brown, Port Saint Lucie, FL, sons, Joel, Darton and Lance Brown, four grandsons and his brother, Dennis Brown and wife Corrine of Des Moines, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wade and Cecelia Brown. He also leaves behind his three longtime friends, Michael Palazzi, Springfield, MA, Carl “Tim” Holt, Des Moines, IA and Jerry Lecroy, Elgin, TX and his beloved Boxers, Dexter and Jack.
Larry served our country in the Army and was a City of Des Moines Firefighter for 33 years, serving many years as a fire medic. He was also a union stagehand, electrician and school bus driver during those years. Upon his retirement from the fire department, he owned and operated Brown’s Kountry Kitchen in Concordia, KS. A family move then took him to Connecticut where he was a college school bus or tanker driver for 18 years, working right up to the day his illness prevented him from do so any longer.
Larry had many interests including spending time with his children, Nascar racing, motorcycles, muscle cars, fishing, hunting and traveling or flying with good friend, Michael Palazzi. He was a Shriner and Mason for many years and loved helping children. He took special interest in many students during his time driving for Lincoln Technical College, Hartford, CT, and helped many get home for holidays, with car repairs, etc.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests any donations be made in Larry’s name to the Treasure Coast Hospice Harper House, Stuart, FL or to the City of Des Moines Fire Department, Des Moines, IA.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 1PM to 2 PM with a service to follow at the Haisley Funeral and Cremation Services Tribute Center 2041 SW Bayshore Blvd Port Saint Lucie, Florida 34984.
